Neuro-Oncology Division

Neuro-Oncology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine is represented by a multi-disciplinary group of specialists from Neurology, Neurosurgery, Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, Neuropathology and Neuroradiology. The team offers treatment of primary and metastatic brain tumors, spinal cord tumors, and cancer related neurologic problems. The Neuro-Oncology Tumor Board meets regularly to review patient management, develop interdisciplinary treatment plans for care and discuss research protocols for clinical studies. Our neuro-oncologists lead the team’s collaborative efforts and provide comprehensive care to brain tumor patients including management of chemotherapy and neurologic symptoms. In addition to caring for patients with primary and secondary tumors of the nervous system, our neuro-oncologists evaluate patients with neurologic symptoms from systemic cancer and cancer treatment.

Services

Patients are seen at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center where they are also able to receive chemotherapy treatments and radiation therapy in the same facility. Cutting edge neurosurgical procedures and stereotactic radiosurgery using Gamma Knife are performed at Jackson Memorial Hospital. CyberKnife radiosurgery is also offered as an additional nonsurgical option for patients with tumors considered inoperable and appropriate for radiosurgery.
