Faculty

  • Michael Benatar MD, PhD: Dr. Benatar is a Professor of Neurology, and Epidemiology & Public Health. He is also the Chief of the Neuromuscular Division and the first incumbent of the Walter Bradley Chair in ALS Research. His primary clinical interest is in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), myasthenia gravis and electromyography. His primary research focus is on ALS (including clinical trials, genetics and biomarker development), and myasthenia gravis.
  • Ram Ayyar MD: Dr. Ayyar is a Professor of Neurology and co-Director of the Electromyography laboratory at Jackson Health System. He is the Neuromuscular Medicine Clinical Fellowship Program Director and the Director of the annual University of Miami NeuroUpdate Course that is now in its 47th year.
  • Khema Sharma MD: Dr. Sharma is a Professor of Neurology and co-Director of the Electromyography laboratory at Jackson Health System. His primary clinical interest is in peripheral nerve diseases, especially immune-mediated peripheral neuropathy, as well as electromyography. His research focus is on multi-center clinical trials in the fields of ALS and neuropathy. He also provides care for patients through our Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) Clinic.
  • Robert Shebert MD: Dr. Shebert is an Associate Professor of Neurology and Pathology and the Director of the Muscle & Nerve Pathology Laboratory.
  • Ashok Verma, MD, MBA: Dr. Verma is a Professor of Neurology and the Medical Director of the Kessenich Family MDA-ALS Center at the University of Miami. His primary clinical focus is on the care of patients with ALS, neurological complications of HIV infection and mitochondrial disorders.
  • Walter Bradley DM, FCRP: Dr. Bradley is a Professor of Neurology and Chairman Emeritus of the Department of Neurology. His primary clinical interest is in the care of patients with ALS and he ensures that our clinical trainees are well versed in the pathology of nerve and muscle diseases.
  • Mario Saporta, M.D., Ph.D., M.B.A., FAAN: Dr Saporta is an Assistant Professor of Neurology and genetics. He has a special interest in Neuropathy.
